Manchester United 1-2 Crystal Palace: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men beaten for the first time in the Premier League by the Eagles

Crystal Palace caused a huge upset in the Premier League after registering their first-ever win against Manchester United at Old Trafford following their 2-1 victory on Saturday 24th August.

Slow start

After a 4-0 win over Chelsea in their last game at Old Trafford, many United fans expected the team to be off the blocks especially after their 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.

James chance

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men had a drab start to the game but went close in the 16th minute when Daniel James broke through the right flank but saw his shot saved by Vicente Guaita.

Rashford chance

United had another chance to break the deadlock in the 25th minute from a set-piece just at the edge of the penalty area which Marcus Rashford stepped up to take but his effort was just high off the target.

Ayew goal

Against the run of play, Palace took the lead in the 31st minute when a long kick from the Eagles half, beat Lindelof easily in the air, and found Ayew totally unmarked and in acres of space as he held his nerve to nonchalantly slot the ball past David De Gea with a low effort.

Penalty miss

After dominating huge spells of possession and mounting attack after attack, United were awarded a penalty in the 69th minute when Scot McTominay was bundled over after making a dash into the box. Rashford stepped up to take the penalty but his effort struck the post on its way out in the opposite direction.

James goal

United have always knackered the art of scoring late goals and did it again this time coming from their new summer signing Daniel James who curled the ball into the top corner after he shifted the ball on to his right foot before firing it past Guaita.

van Aanholt goal

Palace, however, were not satisfied with a point as Patrick van Aanholt netted in the 93rd minute after Zaha drove deep into the United area, the ball then fell for the Dutch right-back and De Gea could not keep out his fierce drive.
