Switzerland international Albian Ajeti is in contention to make his maiden debut for West Ham United when they take on Newport County in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, August 27.
Ajeti was signed from Swiss outfit Basel during the summer transfer window, however, he is yet to feature for the Hammers this season.
The 22-year-old was acquired for a fee in the region of £8million but the hype dissipated rather quickly when Sebastien Haller was signed in the club's transfer breaking record and the youngster was now in the background.
According to Sky Sports, manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Ajeti is in line to be in the matchday squad as he looks to rest Haller while Javier Hernandez is nursing a knee injury.
"I am sure that Ajeti will play," Pellegrini said. "He deserves that opportunity, he is doing very well during training sessions.
"Javier had, during a training session on Thursday, a problem in his knee, it was a kick.
"I don't know if he will be fit for Tuesday but on Wednesday he should be working with the team again."
