South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe have a big last quarter of 2019 ahead. The trio will each begin to fight for a place at AFCON 2021. Futaa takes a look at the fixtures calendar.

Bafana Bafana 🇿🇦

The Southernmost side and highest rank nation, South Africa, will need to get the AFCON 2021 task completed with an inexperienced coach. Bafana Bafana will be led by the newly appointed Molefi Ntseki.

The former U17 tactician and senior assistant coach has to prove himself first with qualification before facing more pressure and scrutiny at the finals in Cameroon come 2021.

Chipolopolo 🇿🇲

As with Bafana Bafana, Zambia will have a new man in charge. The situation comes after the Belgian Sven Vandenbroeck vacated the head coaching seat in March. Vandenbroeck’s failure to take Zambia to AFCON 2019 left the association will little choice.

Meanwhile, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) are set to name their new coach on any day. FAZ confirmed at the start of this month that interviews had been done. The new tactician will arrive in Zambia imminently.

The possibilities are: Vaselin Jelusic (Serbian), Luc Eymael (Belgian), Pierre Lechantre (Frenchman) Tomislav Ivković (Croatian).

Warriors 🇿🇼

Zimbabwe are the most buzzing and confident side in Southern Africa right now. Star player Khama Billiat grabbed a dramatic injury-time winner against Somalia on Tuesday. The win took the Warriors to the group stage qualifiers of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Zimbabwe are also going through a coaching change though.

Sunday Chidzambwa’s dramatic resignation after AFCON 2019 has seen Joey Antipas take over as interim coach. Antipas is as new as two World Cup 2021 first stage qualifier games. The 3-2 aggregate win over Somalia suggests the Chicken Inn coach will be handed the 2021 AFCON qualifiers assignment.
