Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher is backing Manchester City for the English Premier League title this season, despite their latest slip-up away to Norwich.
The Champions suffered a shock 3-2 loss to the newly-promoted side in the West Coast on Saturday evening, to give Liverpool a slight advantage early on in the season.
This is the second time the champions have dropped points this season, having drawn 2-2 against Tottenham in their third match of the league.
The former Liverpool defender, however, feels the team has enough ammunition in their locker and will emerge victorious come May.
“I think it’s a bit early yet, I think we’ve got to probably wait until Christmas. I do feel round about Christmas time Liverpool and City will have a substantial gap and it looks like there’s a bit of a gap at the moment,”
“But I still think City are favourites and are the best team in the Premier League at this moment because they won the Premier League and they proved that last season, so I think it’s still on Liverpool to overtake City but they’re more than capable,”
City manager Pep Guardiola is adamant they will be back stronger after the defeat and has promised that they will recover in good time.
“We’re in September… we’re going to do that? Okay: congratulations, Liverpool, you are the champions. We will recover, go to Ukraine, then we come back. Of course, we’ve dropped five points. Tottenham was a pity because we played very well.
The champions shift their focus to the Champions League, where they will take on Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday.
