Chelsea winger Willian has opened up on his penalty disagreement with midfielder Ross Barkley during his side’s 1-0 loss to Valencia on Tuesday night.
The Blues suffered a 1-0 shock defeat at home in the first match of the Champions League group stage. Rodrigo scored the only goal in the second half as Barkley missed a penalty with three minutes remaining to full time. Danie;l Wass was penalized for handling the ball in the area and after a review was done, a penalty was awarded. Instead of Jorginho, who takes Chelsea’s penalties being given the chance, Barkley stood over the ball and was confronted by Willian who wanted to take it.
After some clear tension, Barkley took the penalty and missed, leading to many questions being asked after the game. And Willian has spoken out over the disagreement he had with Barkley revealing he wanted to take it.
“I wanted to take it but he (Barkley) was confident to take it,” he said as reported by Telegraph.
“This is football. He missed the penalty but it could be me that missed, or Jorginho or whoever. So football is like this. But when we win, we win together, and when we lose, we lose together.”
