Frank Lampard explains why Pedro took penalty over Ross Barkley against Grimsby

Despite Frank Lampard reiterating that Ross Barkley is Chelsea's penalty taker, Pedro took a penalty in the 7-1 win over Grimsby with the former Everton midfielder on the pitch.

Barkley missed a penalty in the 1-0 defeat against Valencia in the UEFA Champions League after having a debate with Jorginho on who to take it.

Goals from Ross Barkley, Michy Batshuayi, Pedro, Kurt Zouma, Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi handed Chelsea an emphatic win as they face Manchester United in the next round.

Speaking after the game, Lampard was asked why Pedro took the penalty ahead of Barkley, "The good thing about my job is that I can choose things and I chose Pedro to be captain and take the penalty tonight. He took it and he scored."

Chelsea will take on Manchester United next after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side narrowly scraped past Rochdale on penalties.
