Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has said his primary target is not to equal or surpass Nicolas Pepe’s goalscoring record.
Pepe, who has now joined Arsenal for £72m, scored 22 goals last season before making a summer switch to the English Premier League club.
Lille replaced Pepe with Osimhen and the Nigerian has scored six goals in his first seven Ligue 1 games.
“If I can score 22 goals like him (Pepe), of course, maybe, even more, better,” Osimhen replied Canal+ when asked if he can surpass Pepe’s scoring feat.
“As I said, it’s good to be compared to Pepe, it’s good for the club, but I am not after his statistics but I would like to score goals to help Lille win games.”
The 20-year-old scored one goal and set up the other as Lille maintained their 100 percent home record, beating Strasbourg 2-0 on Wednesday.
