🇿🇦📅 SAFA confirm Bafana’s road to AFCON 2021 dates

Bafana Bafana’s path to AFCON 2021 has been clearly laid and it doesn’t seem too complicated at all.

While it feels just yesterday when we watched AFCON 2019, we’re already set to embark on the journey to AFCON 2021 and it’s all just the nature of a biannual tournament.

Bafana will begin with a trip to a continental powerhouse. Ntseki’s men will take on the Black Stars of Ghana away on Friday 15 November. The clash will be followed by a home game against Sudan just four days later.

A long and bizarre AFCON break will follow in 2020 between January and September.
Molefi’s Ntseki first biggest assignment begins in less than a month. Next year will see two home & away games to determine a place at the finals in Cameroon.

Confirmed dates via SAFA:

  • 15 November 2019 Ghana vs South Africa
  • 19 November 2019 South Africa vs Sudan
  • 4 September 2020 South Africa vs Sao Tome & Principe
  • 8 September 2020 Sao Tome e Principe vs South Africa
  • 10 October 2020 South Africa vs Ghana
  • 13 November 2020 Sudan vs South Africa.

So how will qualifcation work? A place at the 2021 AFCON will be as simple as finishing as one of the top two teams in the group. On paper, this suggests Ghana and South Africa as the two sides to make the progression. But this is football and anything can happen.
