News out of the USA confirms that Ike Opara could be named the Major League Soccer’s best defender of the year.
In what is a second shot at winning the gong since 2017, Opara has been nominated for MLS' 2019 accolade alongside three other hopefuls.
The North Carolina-born defender has was hugely influential in Minnesota United’s campaign with three goals and six cleansheets in the league’s second round.
Other Defender of the Season nominees include Miles Robinson (Atlanta United), Walker Zimmerman (Los Angelis FC) and Eddie Segura, (LAFC) .
Opara might entice Gernot Rohr for Super Eagles selection, and the 1.88 meters tall defender is still fortunately eligible to don the famous green jersey.
Opara’s single cap for the United States was a friendly international on 28 January last year.
Do you think he deserves contact from Rohr or is it too late at age 30?
