Kaizer Chiefs ace Khama Billiat has told us why he shines brightest when Leonardo Castro is also on the grass.
Billiat and Castro’s magic combination looked to have died at Mamelodi Sundowns, but only until last weekend when the duo mesmerized in a 4-2 bashing of Sundowns.
Billiat, who smashed in the gorgeous fourth goal last weekend via a Castro assist, also helped create the Colombian’s three goals on the day.
“I think position-wise, he gets into spaces and he’s always aware of his surroundings, and it’s easy to run around him,” Billiat told Kick Off.
“He’s also good in the air, which helps as well. He’s a great player, man. So, it’s easy to play around someone who is very good.”
Though Castro was Chiefs’ best player in Soweto last weekend, the 30-year-old’s performance came at the back of a struggling period of bench-warming.
“[Castro] is a good player, we need him; everyone needs him and, you know, he has been working and guys have been supporting him; the coaches have been supporting him,” Billiat added.
“And we’re just happy that he scored those goals. As strikers, we like to score goals and that gives confidence. He hasn’t played much, and to score goals, I hope it will give him confidence going forward and he’ll be at his best, like everyone else,” concluded the 29-year-old Zimbabwean.
The duo will be next in action this weekend in Cape Town. Chiefs will battle Cape Town City in Telkom Knockout last 16 game on Saturday at 15:00.
