N'Golo Kante's injury troubles seem far from over after the Frenchman was ruled out of Chelsea's clash against Newcastle on Saturday.
Kante has struggled with injuries from the end of last season but managed to make consecutive Chelsea games since August in Chelsea's 4-1 away to Southampton last time out.
He then joined the French national team for an international assignment but withdrew after suffering a knock during a regular warmup.
Confirming his absence on Saturday, manager Frank Lampard indicated the former Leicester City star is suffering from a groin injury.
The coach was however not impressed with how the matter was handled between the club and the French camp, saying there could have been better communication between the two parties.
The former Blues' midfielder gave further injury updates on other players, indicating that Mateo Kovacic will be available for selection having shaken off an injury he picked while on national duty with Croatia.
Andreas Christensen will, however, be on the sidelines for at least two weeks with a hamstring injury, while Antonio Rudiger is back in training with physios.
Chelsea welcome Newcastle knowing victory will see them climb to as high as second spot behind Liverpool, and could stay there for hours depending on results from other matches.
