Nicolas Pepe has not had the best of starts at Arsenal but scored a brace in the win over Vitoria Guimaraes as he revealed that Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette helped him settle at the club.
Pepe joined Arsenal from Lille in the summer transfer window for a club-record fee of £70 million but a number of unconvincing performances have left the club's fans feeling short-changed. The Ivorian scored two sublime free-kicks to dig Arsenal from a pit in the latter stages of the Guimaraes tie.
Speaking after his brace in the Europa League, Pepe revealed players who have helped him settle at Arsenal, "As soon as I arrived Pierre [Emerick Aubameyang] and Alexandre [Lacazette] helped me. I talked a lot to them. The manager trusts me. Even if I hadn’t been decisive, I had the manager’s trust.
"It is always important to have the manager’s faith. Of course I knew it would be hard. This is a league totally different to Ligue 1. There is a different intensity. I had to adapt quickly because expectations were high. Unfortunately, that is not what I did at the beginning - but I had the manager’s trust and the players have supported me. I keep working hard."
