The Football Kenya Federation has called off the Harambee Starlets camp due to lack of funds the Federation President Nick Mwendwa has said.
Starlets were expected to enter camp this week ahead of their Olympic Qualifier against Zambia in the first week of November but that won’t be possible as the government has not released the money to facilitate the preparations for the match.
Speaking in a presser on Tuesday, Mwendwa said it was a difficult decision to withdraw the team due to financial constraints and blamed the Ministry of Sports and Culture Permanent Secretary Mr. Kirimi Kaberia for not living to his promise of settling the national team’s allowances.
Apart from the promises, the federation president claimed that they had written numerous mails and letters and none was replied by Kaberia.
Mwendwa further admitted that the absence of sponsors for the federation was making it hard for his team to do its duties.
This will be a low for Starlets who had eliminated Ghana in the third round and are just a step away from representing the continental in the 2020 event slated for Tokyo-Japan.
