The first competitive Soweto derby of 2019/20 is here. Something extra special is at stake: a Telkom Knockout semi-finals place.
While a few of the positions for both Chiefs and Pirates are easy to predict, there are three or four selections that will hit as surprises; especially in the side of Pirates where changes happen like bodies going in & out a taxi at Noord, Site C or Chatsworth.
Itumuleng Khune is still known to be injured therefore it’ll be another derby for Daniel Akpeyi. Reeve Frosler is reportedly an injury doubt - while Kearyn Baccus is fully confirmed to be injured to miss his first Soweto derby in his hometown. Lastly, Yagan Sasman has not really been adventurous as Middendorp would like, therefore we are putting our heads on the block to call a surprise start for Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya at left-back.
- Our line-up prediction: Daniel Akpeyi, Njabulo Blom, Erick Mathoho, Daniel Cardoso, Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Willard Katsande, George Maluleka, Lebogang Manyama, Khama Billiat, Leonardo Castro, Samir Nurkovic.
Even the most attentive and super informed Pirates fans can’t always confidently predict the team’s line-ups - even before Micho left. This unpredictability runs through all departments from goalkeeping, defence, midfield & attack. With no injury news updates coming out this past week, we have based our predictions on ‘signs’ this week.
- Our line-up prediction: Wayne Sandilands, Mthokozisi Dube, Happy Jele, Ntsikelelo Nyauza, Paseka Mako, Linda Mntambo, Ben Motshwari, Thembinkosi Lorch, Vincent Pule, Tshegofatso Mabasa.
Today’s game is set for a 15:00 kick off.
