Antonio Rudiger suffers injury setback, set for more weeks on the sidelines

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger is set for another three weeks on the sidelines, after suffering another injury setback.

The German had fully recovered and was ready for action, but the latest setback means he will be out once again for the remaining part of November.

Speaking on Friday in his pre-match conference, coach Frank Lampard revealed that the German underwent minor surgery, and will be out for that period undergoing treatment and rehabilitation.

He was set to feature for Chelsea against Watford last week, but suffered a last-minute discomfort that forced him to undergo the surgery on Monday.

Prior to the match, he had indicated he was ready to reclaim his spot in The Blues' defense, following months on the treatment table.

"It has been very long now [the absence]. Even with my cruciate ligament rupture, I was not out for so long. I'm itching [to play] but very patient."

Rudiger's injury troubles started in April this year when he suffered a knock in the knee while playing against Manchester United, which eventually ended his season.

He underwent surgery and fully recovered, returning for the Chelsea against Wolves tie, before being substituted after the opening 45 minutes.

He has since remained on the injury bed as he undergoes treatment and rehabilitation.

In his absence, Fikayo Tomori and Kurt Zouma have formed a formidable partnership, and have been reliable at the back.
