Kariobangi Sharks right-back Daniel Sakari was recently named in the Harambee Stars squad to take on Egypt and Togo, I caught up with the former Kakamega Homeboyz defender for a brief interview.
Having played as a winger for Sharks in some games what is your natural position?
My natural position is full-back two but I can also play as a number 11 or a left-back.
What inspired you to make the move from Kakamega Homeboyz to Kariobangi Sharks?
Kariobangi Sharks' style of play is what motivated me to join them and then we all know that football is a profession just like any other so they had a better deal compared to what I had at Homeboyz.
Where did your football journey start?
I started out at MMUST (Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology), we got the team promoted from the Provisional League to Division One then I joined Green Commandoes who were playing in the National Super League at that time, I then joined Homeboyz before joining Sharks at the start of the season.
What was your reaction after being named in the Harambee Stars squad for the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers?
I was excited about my National Team call up but being called up and playing are two different things, I just want to work hard and break into the first 11 and play, that is what I'll term as a success.
Harambee Stars have struggled to get a decent right back, do you think you can fill in the gap?
I'm confident I can fill in that position.
What are your season targets?
I want us (Kariobangi Sharks) to start winning and take the team into the top five and personally I want to assist more than 10 goals this season.
Having settled in at Sharks what is the difference between life here and at Homeboyz?
Exposure is what is different, you know Kakamega is far away so many people don't get to watch their matches.
