Prior to the game, Tanzania captain Mbwana Samatta had reminded his teammates of the benefits of starting the qualification on a positive note after leaving late in the last qualification process to make it to the African Cup of Nations but the earlier proceedings pointed out to a negative outing.
Coach Migne who was taking charge of his first game as the Equatorial Guinea head coach after his departure from Kenya’s Harambee Stars was to make it tough for the home side when they were to take the lead through former West Ham United man Pedro Obiang in the 16th minute; a lead they were to maintain until the half time break.
Difaa El Jadidi forward Simon Msuva was to bring the hosts level in the 68th minute after the visitors had frustrated their efforts with a series of time-wasting tactics. With the game headed for a draw and what looked like a positive result for E. Guinea, Azam FC midfielder Salum Msuva was to come up with a winner in additional minutes much to the jubilation of the home fans.
