Onazi sends help to former Nigeria teammate Sani Emmanuel for surgery

Trabzonspor midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has sent money for medical bills of his former teammate Sani Emmanuel.

Both players played together at the 2009 FIFA U17 World Cup hosted by Nigeria where the team finished second behind champions Switzerland.

Emmanuel, who is now 26, scored five goals to help Nigeria finish runners up while he won the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player in 2009.

Ten years down the line, Emmanuel's professional career has been pegged down with a long-term achilles tendonitis problem with the player struggling to fund his medical bills.

Onazi, who himself has not played competitive football since December 2018 after sustaining a ruptured Achilles, had lent a hand to a brother.

"I got a call from the doctor that [Ogenyi] Onazi has paid Naira 1.4m (US$4,000) for my surgery and also transferred 50k for my ticket to Lagos," Emmanuel announced on social media.

"Thank you very much, brother. May God continue to bless you. The surgery is scheduled for 2nd of December 2019."
