Mbarara City came from a goal down to beat Uganda Premier League defending champions Kampala City Council (KCCA) by two goals to one 2-1 at Kakyeka Stadium on Tuesday.
KCCA came into the match without three key players in teenage Sensation Allan Okello, Kasozi Nicholas and Mustafa Kizza. The trio did not travel with the team because of a nagging knee injury, sickness, and fatigue respectively.
It was a chance for another teenager Sam Ssenyonjo to shine as he retained his place in the starting line up after his impressive debut game against Kyetume FC in which he scored.
And it was the Ssenyonjo who broke the deadlock as his well-timed header beat goalkeeper Muhammed Ssekebba after Kezironi Kizito’s decent chip to put KCCA in the lead just 18 minutes into the match.
It was, however, Mbarara who had the final say as Ibrahim Orit leveled matters with a close-range header before halftime and Swalik Bebe Ssegujja put the hosts in the lead and secure maximum points condemning KCCA to their third loss of the season.
