Felix Annan: We have to play as team to succeed in the new season

Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Felix Annan has revealed that the players are in the process of preparing for life under interim head coach Johnson Smith ahead of the new season, Graphic Ghana reported.

The Porcupine Warriors sacked Norwegian coach Kjetil Zachariassen following a series of disappointing results, the main one being the exit from the CAF Confederation Cup before the side reached the group stages.

Annan who is also the captain of Kotoko believes that despite the departure of the coach, the team will be looking forward to fixing their errors and making sure they bounce back to the top side they are known to be.

"I have always said that as a player you always have to play for the badge, you don’t have to play because of a particular coach. You signed a contract with Kotoko so you just have to do your job for the club irrespective of who is there you have to do your job”, he said.

The 25-year-old further admitted that the interim coaches now leading the club should be afforded the opportunity to do the job the best way they can and added that the players will be fully supportive of Smith and his staff.

"There have subsequently been caretaker coaches appointed so we have to give them the needed respect as players so we can move forward".

"I don’t know the future, I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow. For me, I have always said that you can’t say because the coach is not there you are not going to play.

“Our job is to play for the club. It is not our job as players to appoint coaches, so right now, whoever has been appointed to take care of the club, we'll take that person as our coach and work hard so we achieve our aim of winning and ultimately, being champions.”
