The Kenya U16 team will participate in the forthcoming MIC Tournament slated for Spain in April.
It will be the second time on the trot the young team will be participating in the tournament after making it to the quarterfinals in the last edition held last year.
It looks to be a busy year for the youngsters as they are expected to feature in the AFCON U17 Qualifiers set for Rwanda in June/July this year, as well as the inaugural CECAFA U16 Tournament, slated later in the year.
In a tweet, the FKF Center of Excellence noted: “Kenya U16 national team is set to participate in the forthcoming MIC Tournament in Spain in April, for the second time in a row. They will also participate in the AFCON U17 Qualifiers to be held in Rwanda in June/July. Also on the pipeline is CECAFA U16 Tournament.”
It has been some steady progress for the team with a chunk starting together at the U13 level years back where they took part in the annual Southampton Cup in England in 2016 where they won the Shield Trophy.
The team is currently put up at the Federation’s national center of excellence in Thome, Nairobi, which also has them taking part in daily training sessions at the Wadi Degla club in Runda.
The mic Tournament attracts some of the best teams in Europe with the likes of Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Ajax, Manchester United and Manchester City among other top European sides sending their U16 teams.
