Read Madrid midfielder Luka Modrić has held talks with Major Soccer League Side D.C United according to reports from The Athletic.
United are looking to replace England forward Wayne Rooney who has since joined English Championship side Derby County and have earmarked Modric as the player to replace the England all-time leading goal scorer.
The Athletic further reported that the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modrić has been in talks with the American club since the conclusion of the 2019 season and is reportedly ‘excited’ by the prospect of moving to the United States this despite having attracted an offer from David Beckham owned Inter Miami FC.
A January move is unlikely for the Croatia captain who has seen the better part of his career at Real Madrid but United is believed to be angling at the summer to get their target.
In addition, the Spanish outlet believes that Modrić wants to see out his Real Madrid deal, which runs until summer 2021.
Despite his age, Modric has been one influential player for Madrid as they bid to wrestle the league title from Barcelona with the midfielder scoring four goals and contributing five assists in 18 games in all competitions this season for the European giants.
