Barcelona legend Xavi has confirmed he turned down an offer to replace Ernesto Valverde as manager at the Nou Camp.
Valverde was sacked after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup on Thursday.
Barcelona reportedly made a move for their former player Xavi, which was turned down, before finally settling for Quique Setien.
Xavi, who is the manager of Qatari club Al-Sadd, has now confirmed the report, adding that the reason for rejecting the offer was because it came too early.
"Yes, I received an offer from Barcelona in a meeting with Eric Abidal and Oscar Grau but I did not accept it, especially because it is too early to train Barcelona but it will remain my dream in the future to be a Barca coach." He told Mundo Deportivo.
The former midfielder, 39, played 767 games for Barca and won 25 trophies.
