Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on the fitness of six of his first-team defenders as they prepare to face Liverpool on Sunday evening.
Solskjaer was asked on the availability of the defenders for the tie at Anfield, and he gave a positive response on a good number of them.
Eric Bailly, Diogo Dalot, Tim Fosu-Mensah, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, and Axel Tuanzebe have all seen little action this season, with Bailly, in particular, having not featured at all.
Tuanzebe has played just six minutes of Premier League football since the start of October, while Rojo has not featured since November.
According to the Norwegian, the duo does not appear close to an immediate comeback, but there is good news regarding the remaining four.
“Axel had a setback but he’s working his way towards fitness,” the boss said. “Eric and Tim are fit and available.
“Luke is on the training pitch today [Friday] to see how he is. He’s been ill and he’s had a little issue. Diogo is back and Marcos is still not ready. He had a bad calf injury that took longer than we expected.”
Solsjkjaer has relied on three central defenders for much of the season, and the return of the four will be welcoming especially with a busy schedule on the horizon.
