Ghana's Owusu joins MLS side

Ghana international Leonard Owusu has moved on to join Major League Soccer club Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

The former Dreams FC footballer was announced by his new MLS club on a three-year contract. The 22-year-old arrives from Israeli club FC Ashdod.

“Whitecaps FC acquire Ghanaian midfielder Leonard Owusu from Israeli Premier League side FC Ashdod,” wrote the Whitecaps on their official website.


The club confirmed liking the Ghanian’s playing skills that will certainly help him to make his latest move a success. “He is from a very good academy in Ghana, performed well playing aboard in Israel, and now is the right time for him to take on a new challenge in Vancouver. His characteristics - strong, powerful, dynamic - fit the profile we look for in his position. We are looking forward to having Leonard join our group.”

The club’s head coach Marc Dos Santos added: “Leonard is a player with a lot of potential. He was an important player at Dreams FC, in Ghana, before going to Israel. We believe that he has the tools to succeed in this league.”

Owusu becomes the 10th Ghanian international currently plying their trade in the USA - and which is more than any other African nation.
