Qatar 2022: Veteran coach Claude Le Roy fancies Togo's chances

Veteran coach Claude Le Roy believes that Togo stands a chance of upsetting the form book and qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Togo landed in Pool H with the 2019 AFCON losing finalists Senegal, Congo and Namibia in the draw conducted on Tuesday in Cairo.

Speaking to Togolese press, Le Roy acknowledged that in Senegal they face the second-best team in Africa believes that his team might pull a surprise and top the pool.

"I think it was a draw that could have been much harder for us. I have coached Congo before and think I know it well. I have played against Namibia in previous international tournaments and I know them as well. Our eyes are on Senegal," he said.

He added: "Senegal is a clear favourite in our pool but they will have to fight. We know that in the end there will be a single winner, there might be a few surprises after six games."

The qualifiers kick off in October this year running until October 2021. After the round-robin of matches, pool winners will proceed to the final playoffs that will determine the five African representatives to Qatar.
