Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has made a claim about Kevin Danso's playing opportunities following Japan international Maya Yoshida's departure to Sampdoria, Daily Echo reported.
Danso has managed to make ten appearances across all competitions for Southampton since he made his loan move from Augsburg in the European summer of 2019.
The reason for his limited game time is that Yoshida was the first choice at centre-half and had Hasenhuttl had dropped Danso to full-back position.
However, now that the Japanese defender has left the English Premier League side, the Austrian player can now make his way back to his preferred position.
“He’s a young player and I know he always had to play a position so far that is not his best as a right or left-back," Hasenhuttl said.
“He played one time [as a centre-back] in the Carabao Cup against Fulham. That’s where he is more used to playing.
“Now, maybe in the future, he will have more chances as a centre-back where he is more comfortable.”
