Tottenham Hotspur's push for Champions League football next has been dealt a severe blow after Heung-min Son was ruled out for unspecified period following a fracture to his right arm.
Son was Spurs' hero in Sunday's 3-2 win over Aston Villa when he scored a double and helped his club rise to fifth.
A club statement confirmed the injury and stated that the South Korean will be sidelined for a number of weeks.
“Following surgery, our medical staff shall be reviewing management options for Son’s rehabilitation with the player expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks,” the statement read.
Immense work rate
Spurs are back in Champions League action on Wednesday when they travel to RB Leipzig. Jose Mourinho will rue the injury as one he is robbed one of his best goal poachers given that Harry Kane is still out injured.
Mourinho had heaped praises on Son after the win at Villa Park saying that it is pleasing to have someone with immense work rate as Son.
“It’s good that he was fast and smart enough to attack the second ball and from a difficult angle to score was very good. It was a very important moment, minute 44 or 45, it was fantastic. But then at the end of the game, in a difficult situation, for a striker to run 40 metres to face the keeper and to be cool enough to put the ball in the net, of course, is precious,” he said.
Son has notched six goals in his last five matches for the club while he has been instrumental in guiding Spurs into ChampionsLeague knockout matches.
