Kalidou Koulibaly talks about first racial abuse experience in Italy

Senegalese star Kalidou Koulibaly says he was left astounded at his first ever racism experience in Italy.

The Napoli defender says that he first came face to face with the monster during a match against Lazio. He says was left confused and unsure of what was going on as he whistles rent the air whenever he touched the ball.

“Each time I received the ball, I could hear the fans making noise. But I didn't know if it was happening or just an imagination. I asked some of my teammates if they were doing that at me," he told The Players Tribune.

He said that the actions of the Lazio fans hurt him and left dejected but he continued with the game before the referee intervened.

“You simply play the game you like, as you have done a thousand times before. You feel hurt. You feel insulted. Honestly, it comes to a point where you are almost ashamed of yourself. After a while, the referee, Mr Irrati, stopped the game. He came running to me and said: Kalidou, I'm with you, don't worry. Let's stop these songs. If you don't want to finish the game, let me know."

The 28-year-old former Monaco who was born and raised in France has also experienced another case pf racial abuse when Napoli travelled to Inter Milan for Serie A match last season.
