UEFA sends warning to Chelsea, Spurs and Man United over CL and UEL football next season

Since March 9, there have been no Premier League matches and now the league return date has been pushed from April 30 to 'indefinite'.

There have been talks of the league being voided all together, but this will raise issues when it comes to promotion, relegation and financial difficulties from TV broadcasters and sponsors' points of view will also arise.

But one thing that had been widely forgotten was, the issues voiding would cause for UEFA in how they would set up their European competitions for the 2020/21 campaign.

After a meeting this week, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin, along with officials Andrea Agnelli and Lars-Christer Olsson wrote, as quoted by the Guardian: "We are confident that football can restart in the months to come – with conditions that will be dictated by public authorities – and believe that any decision of abandoning domestic competitions is, at this stage, premature and not justified.

"Since participation in UEFA club competitions is determined by the sporting result achieved at the end of a full domestic competition, a premature termination would cast doubts about the fulfillment of such condition.

"UEFA reserves the right to assess the entitlement of clubs to be admitted to the 2020-21 UEFA club competitions, in accordance with the relevant applicable competition regulations."

The letter comes after Belgian officials made the decision to cancel the rest of the Jupiler Pro League for the 2019/20 season and use the current standings as final, becoming the first top-flight European league to take such measures.

As a result of that, Club Brugge haS been crowned champions, while second place Gent is also set to qualify for the Champions League.

This is a warning to Man United, Chelsea, Spurs, Leicester City and the rest who might think that league cancellation means automatic qualification to European football next season.
