Mario Balotelli will be 30 in August and despite all of his achievements, there's still a lingering feeling that he could have done even more at the top level.
"Super Mario" burst onto the scene with Inter Milan and was part of Jose Mourinho's squad that won the European treble in 2010. He was still only 19 when the Nerrazzuri beat Bayern Munich at the Bernabeu and he played a big part in the team's success throughout the course of the season.
Balo made the move to Manchester less than two months after Inter's Champions League win, on his 20th birthday for a reported €21.8m. The Italian had an up-and-down time under Roberto Mancini on Eastlands with his compatriot manager threatening that Balotelli wouldn't play any further part of the 2011/12 season after getting a three-match ban in April 2012. Earlier that campaign, Balotelli scored at Old Trafford to reveal a t-shirt with the words "why always me" for the world's cameras to see. This gesture, apparently, an attempt by the striker to get the limelight away from his personal life. He's never been shy of a little controversy.
As always, however, Balotelli finds a way to become the centre of the attention and it was he who provided the assist for Sergio Aguero's iconic title-winning goal on the final day of that season against QPR. It was City's first English league title since 1968 and Super Mario played his part. That summer, Balotelli and Italy went all the way to the Euro 2020 final but succumbed to Spain. Balotelli, usually a man who contains his happiness and sadness on a pitch, couldn't contain the tears.
It's been a rollercoaster of inconsistency ever since with the Italian now back in his home country representing Serie A outfit Brescia. He's gotten there via Milan, Liverpool, Nice & Marseille since leaving City.
