Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino believes Jose Mourinho is the right man to continue his legacy at the North London club.
Pochettino has been out of work for the last six months after being sacked by Spurs and according to the Argentine, Mourinho and his team are happy at how they left the club.
Pochettino has fond memories of Mourinho since his days in Spain where he had been linked with replacing Mourinho at Real Madrid when he was at Espanyol and according to the manager, he has a lot of respect for the Portuguese.
“It was in the past, years ago. I said I was not thinking about that and, by the way, my kids sleep in Espanyol pyjamas every night so it’s very difficult for me to think about changing. I am more than committed to Espanyol.
“When I arrived at the stadium, Jose was waiting for me with a bag with a very nice bottle of French red wine and two kits of Real Madrid, shirts and shorts. He says, “These are for your kids to wear from now on”.
“We have kept a good relationship. We have known each other for a long time. He’s a top coach. In life, look at what happens. I always think, “Oh, maybe one day I can take your place at Real Madrid” and he has taken my place at Tottenham. Unbelievable, eh? I am happy he has replaced me.
“I am happy to leave the club in the way we left it, with the best facilities in the world. For sure, he is very grateful for the way we helped to build the club which is now his club,” Pochettino told Sky Sports.
The Argentine further revealed in the interview that he was ready to return to management with Manchester United and Newcastle United being among the teams he has been linked with.
