Bayern Munich thrash Fortuna as Schalke 04 suffer shock home defeat to Werder Bremen

Bayern Munich opened a 10-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga after thrashing Fortuna Dusseldorf 5-0 in a match staged at Allianz Arena on Saturday 30th evening.

Munich opened the scoring earlier in the 15th minute as Zanka put the ball into his own goal. Benjamin Pavard added the second in the 29th minute before the usual suspect Robert Lewandowski made it 3-0, forcing the game to end 3-0 in the first half.

In the second half, the Bundesliga giants picked from where they left as Lewandowski netted the fourth goal, and his second of the evening in the 50th minute. Two minutes later, Munich were flying high as Alphonso Davies grabbed the fifth goal for the hosts to make it 5-0.

The victory means Hans-Dieter Flick's men are 10 points above second-placed Borussia Dortmund who take travel to Benteler-Arena to take on SC Paderborn on Sunday 31st.

FSV Mainz 0-1 Hoffenheim

In a match held at Opel Arena, Hoffenheim registered a 1-0 victory over hosts Mainz thanks to Ihlas Bebou's first-half strike. Just before Bebou's opener, Steven Zuber had missed a penalty in the 27th minute as Florian Muller denied him from the spot.

Schalke 0-1 Werder Bremen

Elsewhere, Schalke suffered a 1-0 shock home defeat to Werder Bremen as Leonardo Bittencourt netted the only goal that separated the two teams. The defeat means Schalke are yet to win a single match since the return of Bundesliga having suffered a 2-1 loss in the hands of Fortuna.

Hertha BSC 2-0 Augsburg

Berlin picked maximum points against visiting Augsburg as they registered a 2-0 victory at home. In a slow match played at Olympiastadion, Javairô Dilrosun grabbed the opener in the 23rd minute before Krzysztof Piątek scored the second in the stoppage time.

Wolfsburg 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

Ten-man Frankfurt gave Wolfsburg a shock after registering a 2-1 victory at Volkswagen Arena. André Silva was on target for visitors in the 27th minute but Kevin Mbabu leveled the scores after the restart of the second half. Five minutes to the end of regular time, Daichi Kamada restored Frankfurt's lead before Lucas Torró was sent off in the stoppage time after receiving a second yellow card.
