Bundesliga side Mainz are in talks with Liverpool over potentially re-signing Taiwo Awoniyi, says club's director Rouven Schroder.
Awoniyi is currently on loan with the Bundesliga outfit and has featured 11 times during his stay in Germany. The 22-year-old scored his first goal for Jurgen Klopp's former side against FC Koln last month in a 2-2 draw.
"I am very, very positive about him. Taiwo never let himself down, always had his head up and the absolute will to improve was never negative. It is a symbol of how team sport works," he told BILD.
"We are in an exchange with Liverpool, that is an open position. We are now waiting for the last games. Then we'll see what the next steps are."
Mainz, who currently sit 15th in the table, will take on Augsburg on Sunday as they battle to avoid relegation from Germany's top flight.
