Arsenal goalkeeper Emi Martínez has confirmed that he is leaving the club ahead of his potential move to Aston Villa.
Announcing the development in an Instagram video, the goalkeeper said: “I could not be happier to leave Arsenal through the front door.
“With the Arsenal fanbase supporting me, I felt their love and I’m very grateful for my 11 years at the club.”
The keeper has impressed since being handed the goalkeeping duties towards the end of lasts season for the injured Bernd Leno and was a key member as the club won the FA Cup and Community Shield.
The player, however, was keen on more game time something that he wasn’t guaranteed by manager Mikel Arteta in the negotiations and it is believed that Arsenal has accepted a fee of around £20m from Aston Villa for the player.
The news comes on a day that the club confirmed that captain Aubameyang had signed a new deal with the club but uncertainties still surround the future of Lucas Torreira who is said to be on his way to Torino.
Arsenal has been linked with keeper targeting Runar Alex Runarsson as a replacement Martinez, according to reports. The 25-year-old began his career in his homeland at KR Reykjavik before joining Nordsjaelland in 2014.
