Man City 2-5 Leicester: Vardy hat-trick inspires Foxes to emphatic win, and back to the top of the Premier League table

Manchester City conceded three penalties as they surprisingly lost 5-2 to Leicester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday evening.

Jamie Vardy scored a hat-trick, his second against Man  City, with James Maddison and Youri Tielemans adding the other two, while Riyad Mahrez and Nathan Ake got on the scoresheet for City.

Interestingly, City took the lead after just four minutes with Mahrez scoring against his former employers with a thumping right-foot shot.

The hosts controlled the match from that point and were never seriously threatened as they built momentum.

They should have gone two-up on the 36th minute, but Rodri's goal was correctly ruled out for offside.

A minute later, the Foxes got the chance to grab an equalizer, and they did.

Kyle Walker tangled with Vardy inside the box and clearly was in his way as he went for goal. Referee Michael Oliver had no option but to give a penalty, which the Englishman expertly buried for a 1-1 score going into the break.

Vardy's second, nine minutes after the restart, was a thing of beauty, as he got to the end of a Timothy Castagne ball to cleverly beat Ederson in goal with a cheeky backheel.

Vardy then got the chance to complete his hat-trick yet again from the spot, after he was brought down by Eric Garcia.

He won the battle of wits with Ederson to sneak the ball into the bottom left corner past the outstretched Brazilian as the Foxes went out of sight in the evening.

Maddison, who has recovered from an injury he carried from last season stepped off the bench to score City's fourth with less than 15 minutes to go.

Nathaniel Ake then gave the hosts some hope of an unlikely comeback as he headed in a corner ball to halve the scores with five minutes to go.

The hope was however quickly erased as City conceded a third penalty of the evening, Benjamin Mendy bringing Maddison down, and Tielmans easily beat Ederson for Leicester's fifth on the night.
