Georginio Wijnaldum has hailed Fabinho following his performance at the center back as the Reds beat Ajax 1-0 on Wednesday night in a Champions League group opener.
Jurgen Klopp deployed Fabinho as a center-back in the absence of injured Virgil van Dijk during his side's victory over Ajax. The Dutchman suffered an ACL injury over the weekend as he collided with Everton's Pickford and is set to be on the sidelines for up to eight months.
Fabinho usually plays as a deep-lying midfielder and filled in for van Dijk at the heart of the defense and impressed as the Reds registered a 1-0 victory over Ajax thanks to Nicolás Tagliafico's own goal. Teammate Wijnaldum was impressed too as he admitted the Brazilian looks look he has played at the centre-back "his whole life".
"Fabinho does great as a center-back," said Wijanldum.
"I think in the games that he's played there we didn't concede goals. And also the way how he's playing is like he's (been) playing there his whole life. It's great to have a player who can play in different positions. He does it well in all of them he plays, so it's a good thing for the team."
