Wazito FC recorded their first win of the season with a convincing 3-1 win over visiting Vihiga United in a Kenyan Premier Lague clash staged at Nairobi's Utalii Grounds on Friday afternoon.
Both teams came into the game needing all the three points after their opening day losses. When Wazito was being whitewashed by Kariobangi Sharks, Vihiga narrowly went down to Homeboyz and it was important that they were not left further behind this early in the season.
And it was so for Wazito when new signing Boniface Omondi gave them a 12th minute lead with left-back Dennis Nganga doubling their tally in the 27th minute with a stunning free-kick.
Things went from bad to worse for Vihiga when Sammy Sindani was shown a straight red card after confronting a referee when the teams were going for a half time breather.
Wazito wasted no time in taking the one-man advantage when Whyvonne Isuza extended their lead nine-minutes after resumption after tapping from close range following a delivery from Kevin Kimani; with Vihiga being forced to make two changes to stop the purge - Otieno and Okala coming in for Mbusia and Okulo.
Vihiga were to pull a goal back through Norman Werunga with a great free-kick, causing a scare that forced coach Kimanzi to bring in Musa Masika for Brian Musa with goal scorer Boniface Omondi being withdrawn for Vincent Oburu as the home side looked for more goals.
When Joshua Nyatini came on for Isuza late on, but the damage had already been done.
