Rio Ferdinand responds to reports linking him with Man United return

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he is interested in returning to the club in a coaching capacity.

Ferdinand won six Premier League titles at Old Trafford as well as a Champions League crown among other titles and has been vocal about the club's happenings in his punditry business and in an interview with Stretford Paddock, the Englishman admitted that he was still in love with the club.

"Yeah, of course, I would (be interested in a coaching role). Listen, I love Man United, it's as simple as that, do you know what I mean? You go to Man United and you play there for 12 and a bit years - you can't help but fall in love with the club.

"So, an opportunity to work at the club in some capacity is definitely a conversation that I'd have because I love the club. What role it would be, I don't know, but if it came up, yeah, (I) would definitely be open to speaking and trying to work something out,” Ferdinand said.

The 42-year-old retired from active playing in 2015 after a stint with Championship side QPR; his sentiments coming a week after United included Rio’s former teammate Darren Fletcher in their first team coaching set up.

Another Ferdinand teammate who forms part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's technical bench includes Michael Carrick.
