Arsenal have failed with their appeal against the red card given to defender David Luiz in their 2-1 loss to Wolverhampton on Tuesday evening.
Luiz was sent off for a foul on Willian Jose just before half time with the center referee Craig Pawson awarding a penalty to Wolves. Ruben Neves stepped up and canceled out Nicolas Pepe's opener before Joao Moutinho netted the winning goal after the restart of the second half.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta revealed that the club will consider appealing as he believed there was no contact to foul Wolves’ Willian Jose before getting his marching orders. However, the club has now revealed the Football Association has confirmed the defender's red card will stand.
"The Football Association have confirmed to us that the red card given to David Luiz on Tuesday against Wolverhampton Wanderers will stand," a statement from the club read.
"We have worked really hard to overturn David Luiz's red card. We presented our case to the FA but are disappointed that our appeal has been unsuccessful."
"We accept the FA's decision and continue our preparations for Saturday's match against Aston Villa."
The Gunners will now face Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday in their next Premier League assignment.
