Pirlo disappointed with Porto loss; gives update on injured players

Juventus FC manager Andrea Pirlo has expressed his disappointment in his side’s 2-1 loss to Porto on Wednesday night.

The Italian was not impressed by how his charges gave their hosts an early goal with their night compounded by other injury setbacks.

“When you concede a goal after one minute, a strange one at that, it’s natural the players will lose confidence, especially against a side that knows how to clam up in defence.

Porto got the game immediately on the track they wanted. With such a packed fixture list, it’s normal you can’t always maintain absolute focus and the right tempo, but it shouldn’t have happened in the round-of-16 of the Champions League,” Pirlo said after the game.

On the players who suffered injuries, the manager added: “Matthijs De Ligt fortunately just had a cramp. Chiellini has a calf problem and Morata wasn’t in good shape before, then was sore at the end too, so we’ll see.

A late Federico Chiesa goal gives Juve a lifeline heading into the second leg that will be hosted in Turin on 9 March.
