Despite a slow start to the 2020/21 season, Manchester City is currently the favorite to win this season’s English Premier League title.
The Pep Guardiola side has mesmerized teams and is currently on some good form with The Citizens opening a 14-point gap at the top of the log. While Guardiola’s side have been praised for their slick play, they have scored a good number of goals.
It’s not the first season where a Guardiola side have scored freely and we look into players who have had more goals under him since he took over at Man City.
- Leroy Sane-39 goals
Now with Bayern Munich, the German ranks fifth amongst Manchester City‘s leading scorers of the Guardiola era. The winger was one of Guardiola’s first signing at the club when he joined City from Schalke in a £37m deal.
Sane spent four seasons with the club and scored 39 goals in 135 appearances across all competitions, winning back-to-back league titles and being named as the PFA Young Player of the Year during the club’s record-breaking 2017/18 season.
- Kevin De Bruyne-44 goals
The Belgian has been one of the key members of the Guardiola era. Apart from providing numerous assists, he has contributed with goals too.
He enjoyed the best goal-scoring season of his career last season when he chipped in with 13 goals, and providing a record-equalling 20 assists to win the PFA Player of the Year award.
- Gabriel Jesus-79 goals
Little is always said of the Brazilian but his importance in the field can be seen in the goals he has scored for the team. He netted twice in City’s last game against Wolves to bring his tally to 79 for the club under Pep.
His 79 goals have come from just 112 starting appearances, a stunning return for a player who is just 23.
- Raheem Sterling-102 goals
Sterling has been one of the most revitalized players under Guardiola. Considered one of the most senior members of the team, the England international has scored more than a century of goals for Manchester City since Guardiola’s arrival at the Etihad in 2016.
During his time at the club, he has won the FWA Footballer of the Year and PFA Player of the Year accolades.
- Sergio Aguero-120 goals
Despite being taken back by a niggling injury; the Argentine has been at his been the best striker under the guidance of the Spaniard.
The Argentina international has scored a staggering 256 goals in all competitions for City with 120 of those coming since Guardiola’s appointment as manager, netting 30+ goals in each of the Spaniard’s first three full seasons in charge.
