Guardiola provide a fresh injury update on Kevin de Bruyne

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has given a new update on midfielder Kevin De Bruyne’s injury.

The Belgian missed City’s comeback win over Aston Villa on Wednesday night and speaking after the game, Guardiola admitted that his injury was not as bad as earlier feared a suggestion that he might be fit for their weekend’s Carabao Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur.

“Today I don’t know because I didn’t speak with him, but we will see tomorrow’s training. I think if it’s not really for this final hopefully, maybe he will be ready for the semi-finals of the Champions League,” Guardiola is quoted by the club’s portal.

City found the going tough against Villa when they trailed after just 21 seconds as John McGinn scored for the Villans, but they managed to level the proceedings in the 22nd minute through Phil Foden. Rodrigo then gave them the lead in the 40th minute in what proved to be a winner in a game that saw both sides finish the game with ten men.

Attention for City now shifts to the Carabao Cup where they enter as favorites but they can’t take the London side lightly. Spurs have won two of the previous three meetings, and there could be a new manager bounce after Ryan Mason replaced the sacked Jose Mourinho.
