Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel says second-choice keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga 'deserves' to play in the FA Cup final against Leicester City.
Edouard Mendy, who signed for Chelsea last summer for Rennes quickly replaced Kepa as the club's first-choice keeper. Kepa signed for the Blues from Athletic Bilbao in 2018, becoming the most expensive goalkeeper in history but has endured a miserable time in west London.
The Blues will face Leicester today and Tuchel says Kepa 'deserves' a start having featured in all five of the club's FA Cup matches so far this season.
"Kepa will start the FA Cup final," he said on Friday.
"If you have a goalkeeper for this competition like we have had with Kepa, you don’t change in the final."
"He is part of the group and he brought us to the final so he deserves to play. Tomorrow is the next challenge for him. Edou [Mendy] was number one when I came in and there is no need to change. Both are fantastic guys and nothing has changed."
Number one choice
"Edou is number one and Kepa is a strong goalkeeper we are very happy to have in the squad. They are working at an excellent level and an impressive way."
The west London side will then face Leicester again three days later in the Premier League.
