BREAKING: Lille win the French Ligue 1 to end PSG's domination

After defeating Angers 2-1 on Sunday, Lille ended Paris Saint-domination Germain's and won the Ligue 1 trophy.

Les Dogues win the French title for the fifth time; their last title came in 2011, when Eden Hazard was a member of the team.

In 1933, 1946, and 1954, the club also won the championship.

For the first time since Kylian Mbappe led Monaco to Ligue 1 glory in 2017, PSG has failed to win the trophy. The Parisians have won seven of the last nine campaigns (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2020), but this year they came up short.

While finishing fourth last season and second the year before, Christophe Galtier's team was not considered a title contender this time around. They have, however, been in first place for 18 of the 37 weeks of the season, compared to nine for PSG and three for Lyon.

Lille has been consistent all season, going undefeated in matches against their closest rivals PSG, Lyon, and Monaco.

They also have the best away record in the league, with 43 points from 18 games and just 22 goals conceded, which is better than Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan had during their title-winning seasons this season.
