Maguire's message to Man United fans after Europa League loss to Villarreal

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has urged the team and the fans to 'pull together' following their Europa League defeat to Villarreal.

The Red Devils lost 11-10 on penalties on Wednesday night at the Gdansk Stadium, following a 1-1 scoreline in regulation and extra time.

The England international was not part of the team, having failed to shake off an ankle injury that had seen him miss United's last four games, prior to the final.

A section of United fans took to social media to hurl insults at some of the United players, with Marcus Rashforrd, in particular, heavily targeted.

Maguire, in a social media post, called out the behavior, saying they should stick together to overcome the heartache.

“Win together - Lose together. Everybody is hurt, this club is about winning. #UNITED” he posted on Instagram alongside an image of him and his fellow Reds collecting their runners-up medals.

The club has also condemned the action of some of its fans, issuing a statement on Thursday morning.

"Everyone at Manchester United is disgusted by the online hate and abuse aimed at Marcus Rashford and other players on social media after last night’s game. There is simply no excuse for it and we utterly condemn it,"

"Manchester United has zero-tolerance of any form of racism or discrimination and we encourage people to report it through manutd.com/seered,"

"We also urge social media platforms and regulatory authorities to strengthen measures to prevent this disgusting behaviour,"
