Arsenal make €20m offer for Lazio’s Joaquin Correa

According to rumors in Italy, Arsenal have made an initial bid for Lazio attacker Joaquin Correa, but will need to boost it.

The Gunners have a crucial summer ahead of them, as they look to improve on their disappointing eighth-place result. They plan to improve every aspect of their team, particularly the frontline.

After signing a contract extension last summer, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's form dipped, while Willian struggled to make an impression.

Nicolas Pepe has been disappointing, while Alexandre Lacazette has been linked with a move as his contract enters its final year.

As a result, Arsenal may need to invest in new attackers, and Correa has reportedly been mentioned as a possible target.

The attacker is expected to leave Lazio in order for the club to bankroll further acquisitions for new manager Maurizio Sarri. He seemed to desire to remain in Rome, but that option may be taken away from him.

Recently, there were rumors that he could join West Ham or Everton in the Premier League. Instead, it appears like Arsenal has started the bidding process.

According to Il Messaggero and La Repubblica, two Rome-based papers, Arsenal have submitted an opening offer for the Argentine international.

They are willing to pay €20m for Correa, but will have to almost double it. Lazio would prefer to receive around €35m as Sarri wants to work with him.

Everton also remain keen, though, so there could be a bidding war. In that case, the Italian side could drive his price tag upwards.

Just hitting his prime at the age of 26, though, Correa may be worth investing in if either Arsenal or Everton feel he can adapt to the Premier League.
