Maddison emerges as latest Arsenal & Chelsea target

Arsenal is said to be interested in signing the offensive midfielder during the summer transfer window, but they may need to keep an eye out on Chelsea and Manchester United in order to complete the deal.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Leicester City playmaker James Maddison, according to sources.

According to @TheAFCBeII on Twitter, who initially reported Arsenal's interest in Thomas Partey last summer, this somewhat shocking development has sent many Gunners fans into a transfer frenzy.

Maddison is also a goal for boss Mikel Arteta, according to, who is looking to improve his creative midfield options.

However, as Chelsea and Manchester United have discovered, signing Maddison is easier said than done.

Ben Chilwell and Harry Maguire, both from the King Power Stadium, have been signed by the aforementioned combination in the last two summer transfer windows.

And they discovered on both occasions that the Foxes are a difficult team to deal with.

While Chelsea paid a reported £50 million for Chilwell, Man United had to pay an £80 million record fee for Maguire.

Arsenal could face more of the same in terms of Maddison.

Leicester will be in a strong negotiating position if Arsenal makes an official approach, having signed the midfielder to a four-year contract just last summer.

"I’m so happy to sign a new contract for this Football Club.", he said last summer.

"It’s an incredibly exciting time to be a Leicester City player with so many positive things happening on and off the pitch and I’m delighted to be part of that. What we’ve achieved as a Club this season is a huge step forward for us and I know there’s so much more to come from this team.

"I’ve enjoyed every moment since joining Leicester City."
