🏦 RB Salzburg's ten most expensive sales

Austrian Bundesliga side Red Bull Salzburg has a clear position in the football ecosystem and they're going about their business brilliantly.

22-year-old Zambian striker Patson Daka completed a £23m move to Leicester City last week, making him the most expensive sale in the club's history.

Like at Benfica, Salzburg's technical staff alongside American manager Jesse Marsch, have become experts at identifying top young talent around the globe, nurturing it and moving those players on to bigger European clubs for vast profits. Their top three most expensive sales are all African talents.

💶 RB Salzburg's most expensive departures

  • 🇿🇲 Patson Daka ✈️ Leicester - €30m
  • 🇬🇳 Naby Keïta ✈️ RB Leipzig - €29.8m
  • 🇸🇳 Sadio Mané ✈️ Southampton - €23m
  • 🇳🇴 Erling Haaland ✈️ BVB - €22.5m
  • 🇭🇺 Dominik Szoboszlai ✈️ RB Leipzig - €20m
  • 🇲🇱 Amadou  Haidara ✈️ RB Leipzig - €19m
  • 🇭🇷 Duje Caleta-Car ✈️ Marseille - €19m
  • 🇫🇷 Dayot Upamecano ✈️ RB Leipzig - €18.5m
  • 🇮🇱 Mu'nas Dabbur ✈️ Sevilla - €17m
  • 🇪🇸 Jonathan Soriano ✈️ Beijing Guoan - €15m

Salzburg spent €8m to acquire Erling Haaland from Molde back in early 2017. When Dortmund triggered his €22.5m release clause, they made an enormous 181% profit on their initial investment. Daka was signed from Kafue Celtic FC in his native Zambia for €250,000. That's an astronomical profit of 11900%.

🌍 Salzburg's strong African contingent

Even after the sale of Patson Daka to Leicester, the club still has strong African representation. Daka's compatriot Enock Mwepu, nicknamed "The Computer" is a livewire midfielder and the creative fulcrum of the side. Malian duo Sekou Koïta and Mohamed Camara are first-team regulars, while Cameroonian centre back Jerome Onguene provides depth in defence.

Africa's strong connection with RB Leipzig is a longstanding one, and we'll continue to keep a close eye on RB Salzburg's progress both on and off the pitch.
