Kevin Campbell excited by Maddison rumours

Kevin Campbell, a former Arsenal striker, has urged the Gunners to reduce Leicester City's current asking price for James Maddison because he believes it is 'crazy money.'

The club has been heavily linked with a move for the England international throughout the summer, as Mikel Arteta looks for a creative midfielder to replace loanee Martin Odegaard.

Campbell believes Arsenal should pursue Maddison, but they must not cave in to Leicester's enormous demands.

“It’s really exciting to hear he’s on our radar. I like him, I think he is a brilliant player,” Campbell told Football Insider, via the Metro. “He is still just 24 so he is a good age. He is a young, talented player. If he comes to Arsenal I believe he can go to that next level.

“The sticking point will be the fee, though, because I believe Leicester are asking for crazy money at the moment. I know he is a very good player but £70million quid is a lot of money. It will be interesting to see if Arsenal can get that price down a bit.”

Nonetheless, the good news for Arsenal is that Leicester are adamant about keeping Youri Tielemans, which means they may be more willing to let Maddison – their other star midfielder – go.
